How Common is Back Pain and Sciatica?
According to the best available data, about 80 percent of the population will experience back pain with or without sciatica (leg pain) in their lifetimes. These bouts of back pain don’t include minor incidents like the occasional twinge, but instead the serious sprains, strains, spasms and impaired range of motion problems that limit your daily function.
In some cases, the causes of your back pain or sciatica may be obvious — a car accident or suffered a sports related injury, like a sprained ankle for example. However, most back pain and sciatica problems can develop gradually through poor posture, repetitive bending, lifting or twisting from having to perform the same action repeatedly (i.e. yard work, house chores or our daily work). In today’s technological age, one of the leading causes of back pain is spending too much time sitting at your desk or driving in the car.
